Sniff & Bark Free Tools: Terms of Use

Our dog tools are free for you and your dog. Here's the deal that keeps them that way.

1. Use them, share them.

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the tools and their results for your own non-commercial purposes. Sharing your own results (like your dog's age card or name pick) on social media is welcome. That's what they're for.

2. What's not allowed.

You may not, and may not help anyone else:

  • (a) use bots, scrapers, spiders, crawlers, scripts or other automated means to access, copy, download, index or extract the tools, their data, results, code or API, except search engines indexing our public pages under our robots.txt;
  • (b) copy, republish, sell, sublicense or build a competing product or dataset from our tools, name lists, name meanings, food guides, quiz logic, size tables, images or text;
  • (c) use any of our content or outputs to train, fine-tune, test or benchmark AI or machine-learning models;
  • (d) call our APIs other than through our own web pages, or bypass, disable or interfere with rate limits, CAPTCHAs, tokens or other security features;
  • (e) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble our code or models, except where the law expressly allows it despite this limit;
  • (f) frame, mirror or embed our tools on another site, or remove any copyright, trademark or other notice.

3. Ours.

The tools, code, text, curated lists and their selection and arrangement, design, photos, and the Sniff & Bark name and logo belong to Sniff & Bark Inc. or its licensors. They're protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Except for the license in section 1, all rights are reserved. Our lists include unique entries, so we can recognize copies. Open-source parts keep their own licenses, listed below.

4. Not vet advice.

Results are estimates for fun and general info. They're not veterinary, medical or behavioral advice. If your dog ate something worrying, call your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) right away.

5. Your photos and words.

If you upload a photo or describe your dog, we use it only to give you a result. We don't keep photos unless the tool says so. You confirm you have the right to use what you upload. Please don't include personal details about people.

6. We can stop access.

We may limit, block or end access for anyone who breaks these terms, including by IP address or network, and we may take legal action.

7. No warranty, limited liability.

The tools are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, Sniff & Bark isn't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages from using them. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.

9. Changes and law.

We may update these terms. The date at the top is the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about them will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. Nothing here takes away consumer-protection rights you have where you live. These terms add to our general Terms of Service. If they conflict, these terms win for the tools.
